Buying guide
Match the hinge rating to your gate’s weight, then choose weld-on or bolt-on to suit your gate and post material. Ball-bearing hinges hold up better on heavy and automated gates.
Spring and hydraulic closers return pedestrian and pool gates to closed after each use. Motorized closers add powered opening for ADA-compliant entries.
Fixed stops at the open and closed positions so the gate ends each cycle in the same place.
Hold the inactive leaf of a double gate in place when it is closed or fully open.
Weigh or estimate one gate leaf and choose hinges rated above that weight. Check whether the rating is per hinge or per pair; most hinges here are rated per pair. Tall or heavy leaves may need a third hinge.
Most swing gate operators need positive stops at the open and closed positions. They set the travel limits so the opener arm is not used to stop the gate. Check your operator’s manual for its requirements.
Weld-on hinges suit steel gates and posts when welding on site is practical. Bolt-on and J-bolt hinges can be adjusted after installation and work well for retrofits.
An uphill hinge lifts the gate as it opens so the bottom clears a rising grade. Call us with the slope and swing direction and we’ll confirm the right setup.
